I cannot remain silent in the face of recent statements attributed to Democratic Attorney General candidate Jay Jones.

What Jay Jones said is not politics as usual. It is vile, dangerous, and disqualifying.
A man who talks about putting “two bullets” into the head of a political opponent — and goes so far as to wish death on that opponent’s children so he and his wife might “feel pain personally” — has no business seeking to be Virginia’s top law enforcement officer.
Virginians deserve leaders who uphold justice, not people who glorify violence to score political points. This rhetoric endangers families, corrodes public trust, and drags our civic life into the gutter.
I condemn Jay Jones’s words in the strongest possible terms and call for his immediate withdrawal from the race for Attorney General. Anything less dishonors the office he seeks and puts real people at risk.
